Sembawang Beach Sunrise - 17 Nov 12

Sembawang Beach Sunrise Photo 1 - Shutter 1/20 sec, Aperture f18, ISO 100

Sembawang Beach Sunrise Photo 2 - Shutter 1/160 sec, Aperture f18, ISO 100

Decided to try sunrise shot at Sembawang Beach. Set my alarm and woke up at 5.30 am. As I only managed to pull myself out of bed at 6am, I had to make a frantic rush to Sembawang Beach hoping to catch the sunrise there. This time round, I brought with me a new tool, the Canon RC-6 Wireless Remote. Basically, the wireless remote eliminates the usual camera motion when you press the shutter release manually. This is a very important piece of equipment when you are shooting in low light which requires the camera to be in a still position.

The RC-6 is a no frills cheap entry level remote for those that are starting on photography. At only .25" x 1.25 x 2.5" (6.5 x 32 x 63.5mm), the Canon RC-6 Wireless Remote easily fits in even a small pocket. The RC-6 will operate in either 2-second delay mode or will instantly take a shot.

Point the Canon RC-6 Wireless Remote toward the front of the camera (line of sight only) within 16' (5m) and take the shot when you are ready. Or use it to start a video. Grab a RC-6 here if you are interested.

The beach was under renovation and most of the areas were under construction. Unable to find nice elements to compose my picture, I have to settle to shoot at the sunrise directly in the end. The shot wasn't really interesting. Still a long way to making shots with 'feel'... Did not do any post editing for the 2 shots above.

Marina Barrage - 11 Nov 2012

Shutter 1/100 sec, Aperture f7.1, ISO 100

Sunday late afternoon on 11 Nov 2012. It was a cloudy afternoon and the sky was not really interesting. Took this shot on the roof top garden. The Singapore skyline is getting interesting. With Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer and the new addition of the Gardens By The Bay with it's distinct Super Tree Grove as backdrop. The shot was post processed in Photoshop by boosting the hue and saturation. Still an amateur with Photoshop though. Trying out some basic features only. New to Photoshop?? Grab a copy of Photoshop here today to unleash your creativity!

Unfortunately, my tripod was useless as I was so blur to left my tripod mount at home. Without the help of tripod, those pictures I took during the golden hour was not sharp. Well, guess I have to come back with proper gear next time.

Sweet Corn!!!!!

Hey! Is that a sweet corn?? No! That's NOT a sweet corn!!

Got a pleasant surprise when my potted plant sprouted a rare tiny flower on a Saturday morning. Ya, that sweet corn looking thing in the picture.

It's the flower of the Zamioculcas plant or more commonly know as 'Jin Qian Shu' i.e. 'Golden Coin Tree'. Chinese buy these plants during Chinese New Year period to symbolize abundance of wealth.

Shot of the flower bug with my kit lens Canon EF-S 18-200mm Macro capability. Not too bad for a decent close up profile of the flower.

Gardens by the Bay - 13 Oct 12

       Shutter 8 sec, Aperture f/8, ISO 100

I met my ex-colleague recently and found out that he also bought the same Canon EOS 60D as me. We  then started talking about going out for photo shoot together. The good thing was he's also new to photography, so there was not much pressure going shooting with him since our skills are both equally 'good'... *ah hem*...

Our first photo shoot outing was on 13 Oct 12. We started with Changi Airport in the afternoon. Unfortunately none of my shots were worth a mention. We then made our way to Gardens by the Bay after a quick dinner. This was the first time I was doing night shot with tripod and tips on the camera settings for night shots from my friend. Didn't spend much time there as the kids were getting tired and restless after a long day..

First Attempt...

My first attempt using the 60D with my Canon kit lens EF-S 18-200mm on 01 September 2012. This is a pretty good lens as it provide quite a decent zoom range as a general purpose lens. As this is my first try, I was using the basic zone functions 'Portrait' and 'Landscape'. Manage to create the 'bokeh' effect without too much effort and thanks to my 2 little angels. They seem pretty excited seeing daddy with such a big camera. Honestly, kids are pretty good models as they are never camera shy.

You can buy the Canon EF-S 18-200mm here.

The Beginning...

Finally started my photography journey when I bite the bullet to grab a Canon EOS 60D back in September 2012. Being previously only familiar with point and shoot cameras and without much understandings of photography principles, the jump to a DSLR was quite a major milestone for me. I started reading up more on basics of shooting and also bounce upon many photography blogs which I seek inspirations.

I set up this blog for the purposes of tracking my photography skills. Hopefully, one fine day, my blog can inspire others the way others had inspired me...

Grab a Canon EOS 60D here.
